Saturday, 4.30AM; Awakened by my youngest son's loud cry, I got up to make his milk. Didn't bothered to turn on the lights because I left them on. Before entering back to our room, I looked at the window-door area (which I always do whenever I would pass by or enter our room). Shockingly noticed the door knob was unlocked and 2 glass window jalousies are missing but the chain lock of the door was still hooked in place.
I immediately entered to our room and asked my husband if he had removed the window jalousies because they weren't there but then he said NO, HE DID NOT. So I told him YES THEY ARE MISSING and if I'm not mistaken, some bastard burglar tried sneaking. So he got up and we came out to check. I noticed that our door knob was unlocked and unclosed tightly maybe half an inch. I told him that I left the lights on but my husband told me that he turned them off. Damn right, Lupin tried to sneak in to do his thing but unfortunately he failed. So maybe he accidentally turned on the lights while reaching on the upper portion of the door to unhook the chain.
We came out to the veranda and found the 2 missing jalousies on top of the bench press. The bench press was still in place but on a slanting position. Lupin slanted it so that he can move freely to work on unlocking our door. I have also noticed our gate was left opened. The window screens were damaged and that's where he took off the other jalousie aside from the one that's from the bottom part of the window. He used the long stemmed tuning fork we use to fix the coals whenever we would cook from the grill. He used it to distort the casings/holder of the jalousies and also to reach the upper portion to unhook the chain lock. He even damaged the corner of the door frame a bit. Thank God the burglar wasn't able to get in and take anything. I'm just wishing he won't try to come back or else he'll regret it.
I used to hang a door alarm and at the same time a door bell on our door knob, but when they ran out of batteries, I took it off the door knob and had forgotten about putting new batteries. It's just a small black and cream colored box, about 3x4 inches and 1 1/2 inch thick, with a rubber-like string for hanging on door knobs, and a 1x2 inch small window for the light - for the hearing impaired. When the door knob is touched (not fully held), or tapped, the alarm and blinking will start immediately. The user can modify the gadget whether for alarm or doorbell use. The sensitivity of the alarm depends on the decibel setting. I will try to put it back until we leave the place and on the new house we're moving in.
This isn't the first time I encountered burglars. We were fortunate enough to have a caring neighbor from the retail store near the main road. The store owner was able to watch over our house while we were sleeping one afternoon. He said he noticed someone jumped into our fence. He then went to the other exit road to surprise whoever it was and he saw two young men. He put them on hold to check what they were carrying with them. They took an old, not working VHS player. It was for disposal but a caring neighbor came to rescue the item. He was informed that I gave away recyclable trash to garbage kids and I admitted I did. But I told those kids that they can come back and I will give them more items ready for disposal. It is true that I had a bad feeling about the other kid because he just can't look at me straight in the eye. I knew that kid would tell his fellow burglar to come and check out on our house to see what they can get, and there, they failed to take an old VHS player. I bet the burglar who tried to sneak in is a fellow of the kid.
Two of our neighbors from our previous residence (which is just a few blocks away from here, our current residence) experienced cell phone theft. One late afternoon, I saw a burglar planning crime on the family next door, fortunately I came out and saw him, so he wasn't able to do his thing. When I saw him, he was like in a letter "S" position while peeping at the window. I showed up, he was shocked and stood up immediately when he saw me and walked out talking non-sense. The next day, my husband's slippers were gone! What's left there was a pair of cheap rubber slippers colored in yellow, orange and green. I think it's got disease written all over it. Maybe that thief liked my husband's slippers and they're actually kinda new and I bought them.
Good thing we're about to leave this place. I want a good, easy access for transportation or area like this but not accessible to burglars and thieves.
